About Street Dance 2
This website came about as a result of the growing street dance scene developing in the UK and worldwide. People wanted to know what was happening in street dance and the direction that it was going in.
A lot of good street dance acts that are now well known started off undergound - and already had large followings then. Many people who follow the scene are not particularly surprised when these artists become better known out there amongst non street dancers also.
However to those that are unaware of what is happening this all seems new to them. Street dance has been around for years and crews have been kicking around for decades.
What is particularly interesting are the recent developments and now that street dance has a larger audience, what is it going to do with it? Will we still be seeing street dance in years to come, and will it still take the same form?
Changes are certain. More and more people are taking up street dance which makes it very interesting to contemplate where they will take it in another 10 or even 5 years.
The street dance community does need continuous support though with many dancers making very little from it. It is more or less their love for what they do that keeps them going.
Street dance crews receive no money for competing in competitions unless they walk away as winners or sometimes for being a runner up.
With as many as 50 groups competing in many competitions (with often a lot more when factoring in regional heats) it can be said that street dance is more a hobby than a bill-payer.
However from these crews that are doing their thing away from the shining lights of the media emerge new trends that the mainstream may then take up.
Even tracing this further back, it is often one person or a group of people who will try something different and invent a new dance style just on their own in a studio or while in practice.
Then as they showcase their work and inspire new people, this new trend becomes more evident.
That's what this site does, it looks at what's happening and what you can expect from street dance in the coming future.
