How The Dance Community Increases The Status Of Underground Dancers
There are lots of very talented and admired dancers that go unknown except for in their respective scenes where they are idolized by many. You might call these underground dancers, who aren't necessarily known by the general public.
They usually build their status when word of mouth spreads about their exceptional skills or routines. They may also dvelop their reputations by winning competitions, battles or dance-offs.
The dance community in a city is often a farily small community where many dancers may know each other or be familiar with one another.
A dance show in town may attract many of the top groups or performers around either onto the stage or as a viewing member of the audience. Many street dancers perform regularly and so will meet other street dancers too.
If an act delivers exceptional performances then word of mouth will spread if enough people think they are good.
They can also develop new fans if they upload their performances onto YouTube or Facebook and their reputation can spread further when they are not performing.
Acts and dancers can develop their reputations when audiences fall in love with them and love to see them perform. They can also develop their reputations with endorsements from high-fliers in the industry.
Many of the top underground choreographers become known by new audiences when their videos are recommended by others who are already respected. If a group of talented dancers with fans cite a dancer as their collective idol, other dancers will then become exposed to this new person.
Dancers are always sharing ideas and talking and because the community is small enough, news of any major new choreographers or dancers will spread quickly.
Imagine if a rumour is started in a school. It can be spread throughout the school fairly quickly, however it is extremely unlikely that it will reach too far beyond the students of the school or into the national news.
In a similar way, the reputations of these dancers can grow quickly though not necessarily onto a national scale.
It is the dance community that keeps it going, as they inform each other about the latest news and performances and so on. And as such these underground dancers with their own cult statuses are born.
